Feel Good Fridays – First Winners Announced

by | Apr 13, 2020 | News Releases

Today, the first winners of the #KWFeelGoodFridays initiative were announced. Last week, the Uptown Waterloo Business Improvement Area (BIA) and Downtown Kitchener BIA launched the “Feel Good Friday” social media campaign in an effort to recognize individuals who are “doing good” for others during the COVID-19 pandemic and showcase our community’s incredibly caring spirit.

King Edward Public School teacher, Tyandra Bulmer, kept seeing the same man living in a bus shelter at the end of her street. She wanted to help and decided to put together a care package for him, full of food, water and other necessities. She herself was humbled when he insisted she share the contents with another displaced woman nearby. Proof that kindness multiplies when you pay it forward! Thank you to Tyandra’s friend Denise, who nominated her!

Nominated by her daughter Annabel, University of Waterloo’s Grace Dong jumped into action after hearing about the shortage of medical-grade masks at Grand River Hospital. She quickly went online and purchased masks from overseas and once received, donated them to the hospital. Thanks for your incredible gifts of time and treasure Grace!

These two women exemplify the giving spirit of the #kwawesome community and the two BIAs are pleased to award each of them with $100 Uptown dollars and $100 Downtown dollars – which will help support the two core’s local businesses once they’ve all reopened.

Inspired by these stories? Send in your own #KWFeelGoodFridays nomination! There are three more weeks to win and two winners each week! Post your nomination to your own social media with the hashtag #KWFeelGoodFridays, tagging in both @uptownwaterloo and @dtkitchener, or send it via email to uptownwaterloobia@gmail.com. Don’t forget – nominators get a chance to win at the end of the contest, too!
