Uptown’s new “un-bakery,” The Crumby Cookie Dough Company, opens to the public this coming weekend.
Founded in 2018 by friends and past co-workers, Sara McMurphy and Jennifer Appleby Vines, The Crumby Cookie Dough Co.’s dough is safe to eat, made with “awesome-only” ingredients. “We came up with the idea on Halloween 2017,” shares Jennifer. “At the time, we were handing out candy and Sara opened my fridge to find a cookie dough log that had clearly been eaten, but not baked.” After she looked at the expiry date and ingredient list, the two began talking about how there weren’t any cookie dough products available that were made of great ingredients, had interesting flavours, were ready-made for convenience and would also be safe to eat raw. Hence, The Crumby Cookie Dough Company was born.
Sara and Jennifer spent their first year researching the market in a food trailer at various shows and festivals. Last year they began selling their products wholesale and started to look for their own kitchen location. This weekend their dreams are finally coming true at their new storefront located at 8 Regina Street. “We couldn’t be happier,” adds Jennifer.
All cookie dough flavours made by Crumby Cookie are safe to eat raw due to their heat-treated flour and pasteurized eggs. Every single flavour has also been tested to make sure it’s bakeable into a fabulous cookie.
Their first day open to the public, aka: ‘Sneak-a-Peek’ Day, is on Sunday, March 15th from 1pm to 7pm. “As a thank you to our loyal fans and followers in the Region, we’ll be giving each customer a free cookie dough sample,” notes Sara. “We’ll also be showing off our new shop with a pickup cookie dough counter that has a sweet, 1960’s mid-century modern vibe – just like our trailer.”
A portion of the proceeds from all sales of cookie dough on March 15th will be donated to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
